Assemblies involve the school community coming together to celebrate achievements and discuss important moral, social and school issues. They provide time for the children to
reflect on these issues.
Each week we have an assembly that focuses on celebrating achievement. Different children receive certificates to praise particular pieces of work, to praise a certain achievement or to praise positive behaviour.
Children are also involved in a music assembly each week.
Class and Year Group assemblies are also held.
BreaksChildren have breaks in their learning throughout the day.
All children have a mid-morning and lunch break while the younger children (children in Reception to Year Two) also have an additional afternoon break. During these times children are well supervised in one of our four playgrounds. We also provide equipment for the children to play with during these times so we ask parents and carers not to send in anything from home as we would not want to see anything lost or damaged.
As an important part of the socialising process, children in full-time Nursery have a school meal each day.
Parents and carers of children from Reception to Year Six can choose from two different options for their child’s lunch. Children can either have a cooked lunch or bring a packed lunch from home.
Money for school meals is collected on Monday mornings. Money should be handed to your child’s Class Teacher with your child’s name, class and amount clearly marked on the envelope.
Many families are entitled to free school meals and claim forms are available from the office. Please check the notice board in the reception area for the weekly cost of school meals.
Changing from school meals to packed lunch or vice versa can only occur after a holiday break. Parents and carers must notify the school office in writing before the holiday.
If dinner money gets into arrears, a school meal can be withdrawn after notification until the arrears are paid.
We have a kitchen on site and staff who provide a hot meal, salad and bread everyday. We work closely with the catering contractor to ensure that menus are varied and well-balanced – our school lunches are very popular! Weekly menus are available in the main reception area. We cater for vegetarians but not vegan, kosher or halal needs.

Parents and carers of children bringing a packed lunch to school must ensure that a balanced meal is provided. We have a healthy packed lunch code which we ask everyone to follow - children are not allowed, chocolate, crisps, cakes, etc. Water is the only drink allowed.
PLEASE NOTE : New End has a strict no-nut policy. We have several children who are severely allergic to nuts and we appreciate your understanding that we would not want to put their lives at risk. This rule also applies to packed lunches on school trips.
